Nerve: Deep Peroneal (fibular)
Compartment: Anterior of the leg
Skeletal muscles: Tibialis anterior, peroneus (fibularis) tertius, and extensors hallicus and digitorium longus and brevis
Cutaneous distribution: The web of skin between toes #1 and #2
Neuromuscular deficit: The foot is severely plantar flexed so that the patient walks with a high “steppage” gait and foot “clop”. The toes of the impaired limb drag along the floor during the “swing” phase of gait. Weakness/paralysis is accompanied by cutaneous nerve deficit between the first and second toes.
