Nerve:  Femoral

Compartment:  Anterior of the thigh

Skeletal muscles:  Saritorius, pectineus, rectus femoris, and vastus medialis, lateralis and intermedius

Cutaneous distribution:  Skin along the anterior thigh and medial aspects of the leg and foot including the big toe

Neuromuscular deficit:  Patients shift the weight of their upper trunk anteriorly at heel strike to extend the supporting limb at the knee. The ipsilateral upper limb is used to facilitate extension especially when climbing uneven terrain. Weakness/paralysis is routinely accompanied by cutaneous nerve deficit along the medial sides of the leg and foot (including the big toe) and/or anterior surface of the thigh.
